Why You Are Not Successful In Your Long Term Goals
People always want to know the quick fix to reach their goals or solve their problems. Put simply, there is no quick fix to getting fit. However, if we can identify a few common mistakes that people get hung up on then maybe you won’t fall into the same trap.
The first mistake is thinking that this journey will be easy, that is not true. Real change takes time. If you’re someone looking to overwrite 20+ years of eating poorly, not exercising or taking care of your body, it will take time. All too often people go from 0 to 100 way too fast. Trying to change every bad habit they have all at once. This does not last! Studies show that it takes an average of 66 days to build a new habit. That is a long time. The chances of you successfully changing more than one or two habits at a time is very low. This is why we must take the long term approach when we want long term success.
Lack of consistency is another mistake that happens. Because we are taking the long term approach we must have consistency. Consistency is what will help us keep climbing the mountain to reach our goals. We can not make large sporadic efforts and then coast for some time and expect to make real gains towards our goals. We must have consistent efforts in things like physical activity, nutrition, and self care. Without consistent efforts we constantly go back and forth from progression and regression and never actually get anywhere.
There is this concept of tribes. A concept that you are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with. Think about those people, do they have the same goals as you? Do they help to move you closer towards your goals? Do they hold you back from reaching your goals? These are some serious questions that you have to ask yourself. Attempting to reach a certain level of fitness or body composition goals is not easily done on your own. You need a support system to redirect you when you start to veer off the course. Having a coach who has helped numerous people achieve the same goals as you is a major key to long term success. As well as having a friend or family member to embark on this journey with you!
